La visit to the menhirs of Carnac in the Gulf of Morbihan can be visited in a variety of ways, depending on what you want to do and how much time you have available. A guided tour is available all year round, lasting around an hour (every day during school holidays). A tour guide will take you to the main ancient sites to help you better understand their history. You can also take a self-guided tour along the megalith path. There are three routes for exploring the alignments from the outside (a short loop around Le Ménec, a 1.2 km intermediate route to Kermario and a 3.5 km walk from Le Ménec to Kerlescan). The Ménec site is made up of 1,050 standing stones spread over almost a kilometre. Visit Kermario site is the most visited, because of the impressive size of its monoliths. Finally, Kerlescan boasts 13 lines of very well-preserved menhirs, totalling 555 standing stones. Prior to your visit, whether self-guided or guided, we recommend that you visit the House of Megaliths which serves as a reception area and starting point for tours. You can watch an introductory video and a number of exhibitions on free admission. In addition, during the school holidays, family visits and workshops are offered. This is a great opportunity for children (aged 4 and over) and adults alike to gain a better understanding of what makes up the world's largest alignment, and to discover the techniques used to lift and move these enormous blocks of stone.
