Situated between Lorient and Vannes, Auray is the starting point for a host of discoveries, both on land and sea. Below Auray town centre, across a listed bridge, nestles the small port of Saint-Goustan. The quayside is a lively place, with riverside cafés and restaurants. There are some fine timber-framed shipowners' residences and typical stone houses in the narrow streets.

Walks and hikes

Walkers should not hesitate to follow the river to the remarkable old bridge at Bono, for example. Auray is also a great starting point for cycling to beaches such as Locmariaquer and Saint-Philibert, some fifteen kilometres away. You can also reach Carnac-Plage, via the megalithic alignments on the moor or La Trinité-sur-Mer.

The Basilica of Sainte-Anne-d'Auray

Saint-Anne-d'Auray is the jewel of Brittany's religious heritage. An important place of pilgrimage, its majestic 19th-century basilica reigns over its sanctuary, along with other monuments such as its 17th-century cloister and the Scala Santa.
